Planet Youth Community Implementation Specialist
Three Rivers District Health Department
Owenton, Kentucky

Sarah Young is a Prevention Community Implementation Specialist with Three Rivers District Health Department, where she works alongside schools, community partners, families, and young people to strengthen prevention efforts and create healthier, more supportive communities.

A significant part of Sarah’s work focuses on youth prevention and engagement. She supports the implementation of community-based prevention strategies, including Planet Youth, using local data and community input to identify needs, strengthen protective factors, and develop meaningful opportunities for young people. She is also helping establish Youth Advisory Councils throughout the Three Rivers district, giving young people a direct voice in identifying issues, developing solutions, and shaping initiatives within their communities.

Sarah brings a unique professional background to public health. Before transitioning into prevention, she worked in information technology and systems administration. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Technology with a concentration in cybersecurity and a Master of Science in Digital Forensics with a concentration in Criminal Justice. She continues to use that experience through cyber safety education for students, families, and schools.

Outside of public health, Sarah serves as the Head Varsity Cheerleading Coach at Owen County High School, where she has the opportunity to mentor young people in another important part of her life.

Sarah is passionate about youth voice, prevention, community collaboration, and creating environments where young people have the support and opportunities they need to thrive.
