Marie Winfrey has worked for the Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH) since April 2022. She was hired as the FR-CARA Program Coordinator and is responsible of the managing the First Responders-Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (FR-CARA) Grant through coordination with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Kentucky Pharmacists Association, Kentucky Fire Commission, Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services, and Local Health Departments, she also collaborates with state and local agencies to implement the FR-CARA Program in designated counties. Prior to employment with the KDPH, Marie Winfrey was employed by the Franklin County Health Department as the Harm Reduction Syringe Exchange Program Coordinator, OD2A Grant Co coordinator, and the Health Assessment Coordinator. Marie assisted in writing and managed the grant for the Syringe Exchange Program, was the Champion for Opioid Overdose Prevention Education and Naloxone Distribution for UK HEALing Communities Study Wave 1, and Marie assisted with implementing the Just Say Yes program, which is a substance use prevention for youth in Franklin County. Prior to the Franklin County Health Department, Marie worked for an addiction recovery clinic for seven years, where she worked her way up to become the Facility Administrator. Marie managed patient care that consisted of about 200 patients. She ran the day-to-day operations of the facility as well as monitored all financial results, variance reporting, and established budget objectives. She managed a clinic staff of 14 and continued community outreach to establish connections within the community for prevention and awareness events.
