 Dr. Obonyo is the Program Lead for the Kentucky Department for Public Health Viral Hepatitis Program, where she has worked for the past 5 and a half years. 

Prior to that she spent five years working in HIV care as part of a Ryan White program, six years at a federally qualified health center (FQHC), as well as several years in hospital and other clinic and office settings. Altogether, she has worked nearly two decades in public health, healthcare, and social services positions providing bilingual services to individuals. She has worked extensively with priority populations including those with low socioeconomic status, housing instability, rural/underserved status, limited English proficiency, immigrants, refugees, LGBTQ persons, and others experiencing numerous barriers to care and services. 

She has a bachelor’s degree in Spanish with a minor in sociology, a Master of Public Health in Health Behavior with a graduate certificate in Global Health, and a Doctor of Public Health degree in Health Management and Policy. She is also a Part-time Instructor at the University of Kentucky where she teaches Global Public Health.
