My name is Ashley Lawson, and I am a passionate public health professional, educator, researcher, and advocate for healthier communities. At 37, I feel incredibly grateful for the experiences, people, and opportunities that have shaped both my personal and professional journey.
Growing up in a small rural town has had a lasting impact on who I am and the work I am passionate about. I have always believed in the power of community and the importance of making health education, prevention, and resources accessible to the people who need them most. My experiences have especially shaped my passion for rural health and for supporting adolescents as they navigate the choices and challenges that can influence their health and well-being.
I earned my Master of Public Health with a concentration in Health Promotion from Eastern Kentucky University and am currently pursuing my PhD in Leadership with a focus in Health Sciences at the University of the Cumberlands. Professionally, I serve as a Health Education Coordinator and Tobacco Coordinator, where I have the opportunity to focus on prevention, health education, tobacco prevention and cessation, and community health initiatives.
I am especially passionate about working with adolescents and helping them develop the knowledge, confidence, and skills they need to make healthy choices. I believe prevention is one of the most powerful tools we have in public health, and I am committed to being part of the work that creates healthier individuals, stronger families, and thriving communities.
Beyond my professional life, my greatest role is being a momma to two amazing boys. They are my greatest motivation and remind me every day to appreciate the little things in life. When I am not working or studying, you can usually find me thrifting, reading, running, cheering from the stands at a ball game, spending time with my boys, or simply enjoying life’s everyday moments.
At the core of who I am is a love for people and a deep appreciation for community. I am passionate about using my education, experiences, and voice to make a difference and I hope to leave every community I serve a little healthier, stronger, and more connected than I found it.
