My name is Tonya Hackworth. I have been a registered nurse for 26 years. I am the HANDS (Health Access Nurturing Development Services) supervisor at the Floyd County Health Department. I lead a team of five employees. Kentucky’s Health Access Nurturing Development Services (HANDS) supports families as they build healthy, safe environments for the optimal growth and development of children.
Prior to working in public health, I have held leadership positions in various healthcare settings. Some of those positions include managing an outpatient hemodialysis clinic and coordinator of an outpatient oncology infusion center. My previous nursing experience allowed me to see just how important preventive services are, this is why I love working in public health.
Although I have held various leadership positions, I am extremely excited to participate in the 2023 – 2024 Kentucky Public Health Emerging Leadership Institute. I am eager to learn new strategies to better lead my team and to help my organization be a more supportive and inclusive workplace.
I have been married to my husband for almost 24 years. We have two children. My oldest daughter is in her first year of law school and my youngest daughter is a senior in college.
